Kano Central Mosque (Great Mosque of Kano)

Kano's main mosque, next to the Emir's Palace, first built for Muhammad Rumfa in the 15th century and rebuilt in the 1950s. The present building has domes and two 20-metre minarets and is run by the Emirate Council. It is an active place of worship, so dress modestly, avoid prayer times and ask before entering or taking photos. The UK FCDO currently advises against all but essential travel to Kano State, so check current travel advisories before you go.
