Discover Naija ("we") is a guide to things to do and places to stay in Nigeria. This notice explains what information we collect, why, and the choices you have.

What we collect

1. Business listings

When a business submits a listing we collect the details on the form. Business name, description, location, links, business phone, WhatsApp and business email are published so travellers can contact the business. The contact person's name, role and direct phone are private. We use them only to manage the listing and to contact the business about it or about partnership opportunities, as agreed on the form.

2. Trip-updates emails (optional)

If you sign up for trip updates, we keep your email, your first name and the month you plan to visit (both optional), plus the date and wording of the consent you gave. We use them to send you travel tips, events and offers, including offers from our partners that we send ourselves. Every email has an unsubscribe link.

3. Discount codes from a business's link

If you open a business's link and claim their discount, we keep your first name, phone or WhatsApp number, the code we gave you and the date, plus the wording of the consent you gave. We share your first name and number with that one business only, so they can check your code and apply your discount. We don't add you to our email list and we don't share your details with anyone else. The business's link also records an anonymous visit count. Your code is saved in your browser so you can find it again.

Events

When a club, venue or promoter adds an event, the event details (name, date, venue, price, ticket link, WhatsApp, Instagram and flyer) are published. The submitter's own name, phone and email are private. We use them only to check and manage the event.

Event comments: when you comment on an event, your name and comment are published on that event. Your email is never shown. We use it only to deal with problems with a comment. It isn't added to our mailing list or shared.

Trip planner

If you use the trip planner and give your email, we keep your email, first name (optional) and your answers: destination, dates, interests, who's coming, budget and whether you have a place to stay. We use them to email you your plan and, if you stop part way, one reminder to finish it. We don't add you to our trip-updates list unless you tick that box. Every email has a link to stop emails about your plan. Your plan's link is private to you; anyone you share it with can see the plan.

Reviews

When you review a place, your first name, star rating, review and (optionally) the month you visited are published once we've checked them. Your email is never shown. We use it only to stop duplicate or fake reviews and to contact you about your review. The business may reply publicly.

Concierge requests

If you ask our concierge for help, we keep your name, email, WhatsApp number (optional) and trip details, and use them only to help plan and book your trip. With your agreement we may pass the details a trusted partner needs (for example a driver's pickup time and your name) to arrange a booking you've asked for.

My trip

Places you save with ♡ and your price currency are stored only in your browser on this device. We don't see them unless you share a list link.

4. Anonymous usage counts

To improve the site and report results to businesses, we count visits, searches, filters, listing views and button taps (such as WhatsApp or Call). These are stored only as totals, for example "12 searches for boat tour today". They are not linked to your name, email or device. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party trackers, and we do not store IP addresses in our records. They are processed briefly for spam protection and to avoid double counting.

5. Payments

Businesses that buy a plan pay through Paystack. We receive confirmation of the payment and the email used, but never card or bank details.

6. On your device

The site stores small settings in your browser, such as an unfinished listing form and whether you have already been counted as a visitor this session. This stays on your device.

What we don't do

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not give partners your email address. We may share anonymous, combined insights, for example "stays in Lekki were the most searched in December". These contain no personal information.

Who helps us run the site

Hosting (Railway), payments (Paystack) and, when we send emails, an email delivery provider. They process data only to provide their service to us.

How long we keep it

• Listings: until the business asks us to remove them or we remove them.
• Trip-updates: until you unsubscribe. We keep a record that you unsubscribed so we don't email you again.
• Anonymous usage totals: up to about 13 months.
• Discount codes: until you or the business ask us to delete them.
• Trip plans: up to 12 months, or sooner if you ask us to delete yours.
• Reviews: while the place is listed, or until you ask us to remove yours. Concierge requests: up to 24 months.

Your choices and rights

You can unsubscribe from emails at any time using the link in any email. You can ask us to see, correct or delete personal information we hold about you by contacting us through the contact details on our Pricing page. We follow the principles of the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 and, for visitors from other regions, similar laws such as the GDPR.

Changes

If we change this notice, we'll update the date at the top.
