Emir's Palace (Gidan Rumfa)
📍 Kano Old City, Kano
The palace of the Emir of Kano, first built in the late 15th century by King Muhammad Rumfa and covering about 33 acres behind high walls. It is a working royal residence home to more than 1,000 people, so access inside is limited. Its Hausa architecture can be seen from outside, and it is the centre of the Sallah durbar processions. The UK FCDO currently advises against all but essential travel to Kano State, so check current travel advisories before you go.
