Kofar Mata Dye Pits
📍 Kofar Mata, Kano
Indigo dye pits near the Kofar Mata gate that have been in use for over 500 years, making them among the oldest in West Africa. Dyers dip cloth repeatedly in deep indigo vats, and you can watch the process and buy hand-dyed fabric. Ask before taking photos of the dyers. The UK FCDO currently advises against all but essential travel to Kano State, so check current travel advisories before you go.
